New Years Eve

Its the end of 2011 and the usual thing to do is reflect on life and make resolutions for the new year.  I stopped making resolutions at new year's, a long time ago- I decided that if I want to change then I should do it that very same day the idea came to my mind!

Having said that I do have a few resolutions for the new year and A pair & a spare tweeted a picture that sums it all up wonderfully :) (If you haven't already be sure to check out her blog! Its amazing!!)

Read the rest of her post about it here.

New Years Eve, in my household, has always been the time to go to church and pray and dance our way into the new year.  So that's where I'll be tonight!

Whatever you're doing, I hope you have an amazing night and the most amazing start to the new year! Stay safe and let me know what you got up to!

Lots of love xx

Remember Remember the 4th? of November

My friends and I had the most amazing time at ALC's Bonfire and Fireworks night on Friday 4th November.  The atmosphere was electric and there was even a fair ride! Admitidly I could walk properly or stand straight for about 5mins after I got off the ride but it was amazing!  What did you do for Bonfire night? Enjoy the photos!

Amazing friends

Screaming for my life!

Vexed cos the ride scared me and I couldn't walk straight for about 10 mins afterwards ;)

Hair and Beauty Haul

Firstly, sorry for the long absences between posts- I've been unsure of what to write about but now have a long list of reviews and 'What's in my bag post' that I shall be concentrating on :) Also sorry for the orientation of the photos in this post- I have tried to turn them around but nothing seems to work! Bare with me as I improve my technological skills ;)

So as you all know I've started my hair journey and so far so good.  I have been washing my hair twice a week and using different oils to moisturise my hair instead of creams that contain petroleum (cos they're bad for your hair apparently)

I picked up a satin cap (£2.49) to put over my head when I sleep and this one has 'hair growth' conditioner in it but I think its a bit of a gimmick.  Its the perfect size for my head though and doesn't fall off when I sleep- so I'm happy! The hair scissors are for when I need to 'dust' my hair- £1 from Poundland and a mignifiying mirror so I can see more detail- also £1 from Poundland

TRESemme hair products were on 3 for 2 at Tesco- these specific ones make my hair soo soft its unreal! Plus they smell pretty good and will last me a while

Lastly for hair, these are the Oils I got and they make my hair so soft and shiny! Amla and Vatika are Asian brands that I found in Tesco (£2.99- £3.49 each).  Herbal essences split hair cream from Superdrug and the castor oil (£1.99) from my local black hair shop

Superdrug are having a 3 for 2 on ALL beauty products so I picked up everything on my wish list: Gosh nail glitter in gold, Rimmel matt top coat, Rimmel 5in1 Nail treat top coat, Barry M instant effects in Gold and Revlon 'Facets of Fuscia'

I also picked up the new Sleek brow kit and contour kit: both in 'Dark'

I was in need of a new eye-liner and heard amazing things about this Maybelline one so decided to try it out- its amazing! And the Bourjois intense eyeshadows are the best I've ever tried- the black one is, in my opinion, better than MAC's carbon

Some more essentials: Nair Hair removal cream- £1//Poundland, Nailpolish remover £1.48//Superdrug, Nivea mini deodorant (for my bag)- £1.19//Superdrug and Vaseline- £1 each//Poundland

Lastly for part one of this haul, I've picked up some really nice jewellery from Primark. Yes, I did get the earrings in both colours but they are perfect for Christmas time and pretty so why not!

Hope you enjoyed the 1st instalment of this haul- the cloths are coming soon

Westfield: Stratford City

I went over to check out the new Westfield yesterday with my sister and lets just say NEVER AGAIN!

Really and truly, I should have known:
- Firstly, they opened on a Tuesday- no tangible shopping centre I know, opens at the beginning of the week.
- Secondly they named it the same name as a shopping centre thats already open- why??
- Thirdly, Stratford as an area, is still in major development- I chose to take the bus and it seems like there are a lot of regeneration projects happening in the area (including the stations) and so traffic is a bit ridiculous.

I was disappointed to be honest- terribly so. I couldn't even find the MAC store (I checked on the website when I got home and its another store that's 'opening soon').  If you hate large crowds then STAY AWAY. There were soo many people it gave me a bit of a headache by the time I got to the second floor.  I hate giving bad reviews- so I tend to keep my mouth shut but I feel its my duty to let you know that it really is a waste of time going there...but check it out for yourself and let me know what you think!

The only upside is the food.  There is quite a range- from fresh Caribbean food to fresh Italian pasta and a speciality bread shop plus everything in-between including a Greggs (my biggest shock after Primark).  What caught my eye was a really cute little Italian fresh pasta deli on the ground floor.  The people that work there are real Italians, and the pasta is made fresh right in fount of you! The chef was using one of those roller machines to stretch out the pasta- it was soo cool to watch! And the price of the food was quite reasonable.

All-in-all, my conclusion as I left to go home was 'Never Again' but maybe my judgement is too hasty so I shall try again when more of their stores have opened and the hype has died down a little.

Dr. Miracle

So yesterday, for the first time EVER, I managed to relax my hair by myself.  Admittedly I've relaxed my mum and sisters hair multiple times but never been brave enough to do it on myself- hence spending £25 every-time I go to the hairdressers. Yesterday has marked a new era in my life!

I wanted to do things right so youtube'd  how to do it at home and found soo many channels dedicated to black hair care that i kicked myself for not looking earlier! Anywho, after watching a few videos I decided to follow LaurenMichelle's video (she has AMAZING hair and after reading her blog and watching pretty much all her videos I decided to trust her advise).

Also check out her Blowdry series! Its pretty awesome :)

I also decided to Use Dr.Miracles for the first time- so I quick hopped it to my local beauty shop (its just been opened by a couple of Asian men and has been putting the overpriced Nigerian shop across the road out of business!) and asked the guy in the shop and he said it was the best (even though ten seconds earlier he was trying to flock me some useless £2.99 fake olive oil relaxer kmt!) I also managed to pick up some Ambi face soap and Africa's best leave-in/wash-out deep conditioner(their products always smell soo good!) Review of both of these coming soon!

The way my hair feels after relaxer is always horrible but Dr.Miracles didn't leave my hair feeling as bad, so I was quite impressed.  But unless my hair feels like silk I'm not satisfied so I always deep condition- this usually entails me mixing all the conditioners in my house together and leaving my hair to soak for at least 1hour.  Yesterdays concoction was a mix of :

1) Tresemme's Saloon silk conditioner (actually makes my hair feel like silk!)
2) Herbal Essence's Hello hydration conditioner (smells divine!)
3) Africa's best Deep Conditioner (still testing but smells amazing too!)

I then proceeded to wrap my hair in cling-film (my lil sister saw me and said I looked like I was from outer space) and go about my business for 2hours.  In the last few minutes I got a hair dryer and blasted it on the hottest setting, all over my hair for a bit of extra thermal stimulation. I rinsed, rinsed again and applied Africas best conditioner mixed with Dr. Miracles Relaxed Hair potion (came with the relaxer kit) and let it air dry naturally for a few hours.  Just before I went to bed I sectioned my hair, conditioned my scalp with Africas best Super Grow and followed  LaurenMichelle's Blow-dry series.

I'm not gonna lie- my hair looks amazing and has that 'Afro-american hair bounce' I've never been able to achieve. Its super soft and has shine I could have only dreamed of! So for £5.99 and a tub of elbow grease, I've managed to get the gorgeous hair I've always wanted and never been able to achieve in a professional hairdressers for £25+.  Amen to DIY hair!

Happy, Thankyou, More Please

So I watched a movie the other day called 'Happy, Thankyou, More Please'- its wonderful and I definitely reccomend it!

It made me realise that I do not take enough time to be thankful for all the good things in my life, so its my challenge in September to find 10 things everyday that I am grateful for.  I missed yesterday so will start today:

1. That I am in good health
2. That I have a loving family
3. That I have a place to call home
4. My skin felt the warmth of sunshine today...
5. ...that I don't burn in the sun, ever!
6. Skype!!
7. Bright coloured shoes
8. Salvation
9. Pure, unforceful, kind, gentle love
10. Peppermint Green Tea

What are you grateful for today?

Twilight Zone

Sorry for lack of posts, I've been wanting to do a video for a while but my skin has decided to host a party for blemishes to massive pores and everything in between.  So I decided on a full detox- so far not so good...but I have managed to eat a lot more healthy and flush my system with copious amounts of peppermint green tea and H20.

Anywho(yes, the 'who' was intentional hehe) yesterday and today have brought glorious sunshine with them! I think its the last of the sun before winter rears its Ice covered roads and bitter winds- so Ive been dressing as summery as possible!  Yesterday saw Bright orange shorts and a monochrome striped t-shirt.  Today's outfit included a retro shirt I 'inherited' from my mum and my gorgeous wedges from Aldo

Running away?

Face- MAC Studio Fix pressed powder in NW45, Maybelline Liner Express in Black, Rimmel Eyebrow pencil in Dark Brown, MAC Lipstick in Lady Bug, Party of blackheads on my forehead

Shirt/Mothers closet  Black Skinny Jeans/Levi  Wedges/Aldo  Sunglasses/Matalan  Ring/Primark  Earrings/Cant remember
(Sorry for the bad lighting I'd just got back home and the sunlight was fading fast. Photo credits to my sister!)

Thursday was the day set aside for looking for an outfit for my friends wedding on Saturday (3rd)- but somehow I ended up in Primark on Oxford St *sigh* I went in with good intentions and came out with a bag full of fun hehe.  And for the first time ever I bought shoes that were a size too small for me BUT they fit! Does anyone else do this?

And its 00.48 and I STILL have no idea what I'm wearing to a wedding that starts in 12 hours! Never have I felt so ill prepared, outfit wise, for anything! Pray that I get up and love everything in my wardrobe so I can make a quick decision!

Benefit FLASH SALE!!

Hey awesome people! I just heard about this flash sale and am on my way to John Lewis on Oxford Street as I type! So wanted to let you know about it as well!

Summer Summer Summer time

London has been soo gorgeous and sunny the past few days so me and my boyfriend decided to have lunch in Hyde Park. It was wonderful! Sunshine, people everywhere, flowers and a lot of people watching on my part (Londoners have the most amazing sense of style!).

Sorry for the lack of make-up in this photo! My boyfriend likes my face 'au natural' and isnt a fan of the transfer of my foundation on his clothes hehe

Tomorrow is set to be 30C apparently!! That's tropical for any climate and certainly unheard of in England so it'll be fun to see how people cope in the heat! Is it sunny where you are? What will you be wearing?

Before we went out, I gave myself a manicure and when I got home I gave myself a pedicure! It was such a good day! On my fingernails: Golddigger gold nail polish, L.A. Colours 'Cranberry Red' with Barry M 'Red Glitter' over it. And on my toenails I have Barry M's Pink Flamingo- its a gorgeous bright baby pink (weird description I know but its the only way I can describe it lol) I would put up a photo but I don't like my feet.

This is the song that best describes my mood- an absolute classic!

Mini Haul

It was my sisters birthday yesterday so the day before I went shopping for her gifts and managed to pick a few things up for myself in the process :D

For all the women that store their things in their bra: money, phone, lip-gloss and all manner of other things, this is your new breast friend (excuse the pun, I couldn't help myself!) No longer is there a risk of accidental nipple show when digging for the fiver that's slipped down the side of your bra! And at £3 its an absolute bargain!

How you can use it :)

I also picked up a little gem from MAC's Semi Precious collection. 'Smoked Ruby' was the only shade that I couldn't leave behind- its gorgeous and so unique it was love at first sweep(over my eyelid). I did like the green one as well but I was a little unsure so may go back for it...we'll see :)

And FINALLY I have decided on a sleek pallet! Its taken me a while because as much as I love wearing colour I'm not so confident with it on my face(Bar Vegas Volt lipstick from MAC) And so freak a little at the possibility that I may leave my house looking like a clown, rather than an exotic beauty...

Having said this, the 'Sunset pallet' that I purchased is perfect! A good mix of Neutrals and 3 main bights that I can experiment with and blend away if anything too disastrous happens!

Swatches (Smoked Ruby is the one on top by itself)

The colours are gorgeous but didn't come out as pretty on camera so definitely go check them out for yourself! I'm also after their new limited edition Aruba Blush and Bonaire Pout polish. I tried on the pout polish and it gave my lips the nicest summery orange sheen without being to OTT and I've been looking for an orange blush ever since I saw this video

That's the end of my mini haul! I'm yet to do a clothes/shoes haul cos I've had to move house so I'm still getting my room together and all my things in one place so please be a little more patient with me :)

Asos Virgin

OK, just so you know I HATE online shopping unless Ive tried it on in the store first and know exactly what I want. Also the bain of my life are postage and packaging costs- I'm already buying things from you, so why would you charge to send it to me?! *annoyance*

For these two major reasons I've never bought anything from ASOS.com. Also I find that things online can sometimes look different in real life i.e. It looks great online and rubbish in real life or vise versa. Basically when I buy something its a commitment- I cannot stand returning things(hang-up from working in M&S lol)

But a few days ago( friday 1st to be exact) I lost my asos cherry simply because the cape I've been STALKING for like 4 months has gone on sale *YAY* I also picked up a white maxi skirt, Oriental print scarf and large floppy hat(which I'm returning cos it doesnt fit on my big head- meh!)

ASOS Jersey Maxi Skirt

ASOS Oriental Floral Print Scarf

Close up

ASOS Cotton Hooded Cape Mac

Button detail

Back View (sorry about the creases- it was new out of the packaging)

I must say that I am impressed with ASOS. I ordered at 5.40pm on a friday and by Monday 4th my order was shipped to me. And because of my dislike of P&P costs I picked the 'UK Style Saver'(aka FREE) postage option which is supposed to take up to 6 working days. I came home on Wednesday 6th to find my package had tried to be delivered to me(I wasnt home so they tried again the next day and left it with my neighbor)

Their items were also as nice as they were on the website and run true to size!! I will be ordering from them again for sure! If you're as ASOS.com virgin like I was- definitely take the plunge.

Death of a Shoe

So you know the shoes I told you about on saturday? That managed to withstand the rain? It was all a LIE!!!! I was wearing them yesterday and all of a sudden 'flap, flap, flap'- I look down to see that my shoe is starting a conversation with the pavement *shock horror* But I think to myself 'its not too bad- i can make it home and sort them out there' LIE No2!! LITERALLY 2 steps later 7/8ths of the sole was hanging off the shoe! My only option at this point is to rip off the rest of it and find my way home.

*RIP Shoe :(

I'm gonna see if I can repair them and let you know how it works out!

I still had a long way to go to get home so decided to stop over at Bluewater and get some tights (seriously needed) and a new pair of flats so I have something to wear home. This decision was the beginning of my downfall...I was confronted with the summer sales HEAD ON with NO WARNING!

I don't have time to take pictures and blog about it all so im just gonna do a haul video of all the things I've bought this month. Just waiting for a few things to come in the post then you can see everything properly :) keep an eye out on my Youtube channel to see it *yay*

Tube

I was soo late for where I had to be on Sunday morning that I did my make-up on the tube! But it didn't turn out so bad so *yay*

MAC Studio Fix Powder(NW45) MAC Raizin Blush Avon Earth Quad Eyeshadow

Maybelline Line Express in Black Mary Kay Signature Ultimate Mascara

Vaseline Rose and Almond Oil MAC Viva Glam 6 Lipstick

*This is my usual every day look when I decide to 'paint my face' as my dad puts it :P

BTW Transport For London is a JOKE on the weekends! The amount of times I had to change tube/bus to get to my destination was a JOKE!! But I did go to Camden for the first time and found an ALDO discount store!! *BEST* useless TFL delay day ever!! Albeit that it rained soo hard that my black flats were nearly ruined. Somehow through all this I was pretty calm. Normally I would have been stressing out that 'I'm late' and that 'my shoes are ruined' but I was uncharacteristically undramatic about the day :)

Hope you had better weather/transport where you were this weekend

xx
